Signing up & onboarding
Creating your Theta account, joining an organization, and finding your way around.
This page walks through getting into Theta for the first time, whether you're a learner joining a class or an instructor setting up a space.
Creating an account
- From the landing page, choose Sign up.
- Enter your name, email and a password of at least 8 characters.
- We email you a confirmation link. Open it and you're signed straight in — there's no code to type and no second password entry.
You must confirm your email to sign in
Confirming isn't optional. Until you open the link, signing in is refused and we send you a fresh one. The link works from any device and expires after an hour — if it's not in your inbox, check your spam folder or use Resend the email on the confirmation screen.
Already have an account? Use Login. If you've forgotten your password, the Forgot password link emails you a reset code.
Two-step verification
Two-step verification is optional and off until you turn it on from your profile. Once enabled, signing in emails you a 6-digit code — you can tick trust this device for 30 days so you aren't asked again on a machine you use often.
This is separate from confirming your address above, and the two emails say which is which: "Confirm your Theta email address" carries a link, "Your Theta sign-in code" carries a code.
Joining an organization
You experience Theta inside an organization (a space). There are two common ways to get into one:
- By invitation. An instructor or admin invites you by email. Follow the link, create your account, and confirm your email — the organization and any courses you were enrolled in appear as soon as you do. New members start as Learners unless the invitation says otherwise; see Roles & access.
- By being promoted. If you already share a space, an instructor can promote you to Instructor there.
Invited but don't see your organization?
Access from an invitation is granted at the moment you confirm your email, not when you sign up. If the space is missing, confirm your address and it will appear. Sign up with the same address the invitation was sent to — the match is what grants your access.
Inviting people (instructors & admins)
From your organization's Members tab, Add members invites someone by email address. Choose whether they join as a Learner or an Instructor — any instructor or admin can do either.
If the address already has a Theta account, they're added to the organization straight away. If not, they get a link to create one and join once they confirm their email address.
You can enrol the invitee in courses at the same time, and resend or revoke a pending invitation from the same panel.
If you're the first person setting up a space, you'll create the organization and become its admin.
The dashboard
After signing in you land on the dashboard — your switchboard across every space you belong to. From here you:
- Pick which organization to enter.
- Jump back to a course or submission you were working on.
- Reach your account settings.
Finding your way around a space
Inside a space, a consistent layout follows you everywhere:
- A top bar with the Theta brand and your account menu.
- A left sidebar (a slide-in drawer on phones — tap the menu button) with the space switcher and the navigation for wherever you are.
What appears in the sidebar depends on your role. Learners see learning and practice links; instructors additionally see the Designer and management tools.
Where to go next
- Learners: head to a course and start a lesson — see The submission flow.
- Instructors: start building — see Building a lesson.
